8-year-old me would be thrilled to know that this is my future. I love animals!
Over the course of 2023, 20-something cats and kittens showed up at my house. We found homes for as many as we could, but it's hard when all of the local rescues are already full.
3 years later, I still have 10 cats plus 2 special-needs dogs, 10 fish, and a bearded dragon.
Hatching the idea behind Bright Blue Nest
In 2025, caring for this many animals reached a new level of overwhelming.
- I needed a way to simplify my online presence.
- I needed a way to financially support the animals without taking too much of their attention away.
- I wanted something fun and creative that I could look forward to!
- And I wanted to help some elderly neighbors afford to care for their animals by offering steep discounts on pet supplies and, if this venture grows enough, by sharing a portion of the profits.
I went through so many ideas that year. Some of which will eventually find their way into Bright Blue Nest. But ultimately, opening a little pet shop won!
Making it happen in 2026
After months of planning and collecting inventory, I am finally ready to make this dream a reality.
The unexpected shutdown of my day job in Summer 2026 has given me time to focus on simplifying my online presence as I set up Bright Blue Nest for a strong start!
I am not ready to take on any human employees yet. For now, I have compared several print-on-demand companies to outsource t-shirts and wall art, and I am interviewing potential non-human workers to help with quality control, morale, and security.
